Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2025 in Malaysia: Strengthening Malaysia’s Halal Leadership

The Government of Malaysia is pleased to announce that the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2025 will be held in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from 16 to 26 September 2025. This premier annual halal event will be inaugurated by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, on 19 September 2025.

The Summit serves as a pivotal platform showcasing Malaysia’s leadership role and the rapid growth of the global halal economy. With the participation of over 50 countries and numerous international halal certification bodies, the Summit reaffirms halal as a globally recognized standard and universal reference for nations worldwide.

Carrying the theme “Integrity, Sustainability, Resilience”, GHaS 2025 drives a new trajectory for the global halal market. It brings together industry leaders, policymakers, academics, international halal certification bodies, and consumers, underscoring a shared responsibility in building a halal ecosystem that is credible, innovative, and resilient in navigating the increasingly dynamic global economy.

In line with this, GHaS continues to serve as a key platform to reinforce Malaysia’s position as a global leader and reference in halal. Malaysia has been acknowledged as the global halal leader for 11 consecutive years in the Global Islamic Economy (GIE) Report 2024, further affirming the nation’s capability in driving the development of the halal industry internationally.

This prestigious event is a joint initiative of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), together with its agencies the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC), and the Department of Standards Malaysia (JSM). Also lending strong support are the Halal Products Research Institute (IPPH), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), institutions that have long played a critical role in strengthening research, innovation, and halal tourism development to support the growth of Malaysia’s comprehensive halal ecosystem.

As the principal authority in halal certification management, JAKIM will host three flagship programmes in conjunction with GHaS 2025, namely the Halal Certification Bodies Convention (HCBC), the International Halal Technical Capacity Development Programme (IHTCDP), and the Global Halal Talk (GHT). Scheduled from 16 to 17 September 2025 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, these programmes will not only bring together international halal certification bodies, industry players, academics, and key stakeholders, but also serve as high-level platforms for dialogue on the direction, challenges, and future of the global halal industry.

Marking its 15th edition, the Halal Certification Bodies Convention (HCBC) adopts the theme “Igniting Excellence: Bridging Halal Worldwide”, underscoring its commitment to addressing key strategic issues such as the development of the halal ecosystem, contemporary fatwas on halal related matters, Muslim friendly tourism in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, technological advancements aligned with Shariah principles, halal forensics, as well as sustainability and food safety, which remain critical elements in shaping the global halal landscape. In addition, the Convention will highlight Malaysia’s digital transformation initiatives in halal certification through the Malaysia International Halal Authority Board System (MyIHAB) and the JAKIM International Abattoir Application System (JIAAS), both developed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in global halal governance.

Meanwhile, the 4th International Halal Technical Capacity Development Programme (IHTCDP), carrying the theme “Strengthening Core Competencies for Success”, will offer six focused sessions aimed at building the skills and capacities of international halal certification bodies. The programme serves as a strategic knowledge transfer platform led by JAKIM as the world’s leading halal certification authority, thereby consolidating Malaysia’s position as a primary reference point in the global halal ecosystem. This initiative is expected to enhance the Shariah and technical capacity of international delegates, enabling halal certification bodies to strengthen their competitiveness, trustworthiness, and global recognition.

This year’s Summit also introduces a new initiative through the Global Halal Talk (GHT), a prestigious discourse platform that brings together strategic insights from Malaysia’s top leadership. The session will open with welcoming remarks by YB Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im bin Haji Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), followed by a Special Address delivered by YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. GHT will focus on future aspirations and strategic directions of the global halal industry, including emerging challenges, investment opportunities, and the role of technology in strengthening competitiveness. A key highlight will be Malaysia’s halal digital transformation agenda, positioned as a cornerstone in fortifying the nation’s status as a trusted and authoritative global halal hub.

Hosting GHaS 2025 is not only a reaffirmation of Malaysia’s leadership, but also a clear invitation for nations seeking to build or expand their halal ecosystems to engage Malaysia as a strategic partner. The Summit demonstrates Malaysia’s unique ability to convene diverse global perspectives while upholding a balance that prioritizes religious integrity and synergizes with technical requirements as well as commercial demands.
